SCAN Health Virtual Business Case Competition victors present winning solution to Canadian Blood Services’ Executives
OTTAWA, February 19, 2019 – Students from Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville flew to Canada’s capital to present their winning solution to the Canadian Blood Services (CBS)’ Executive Team.
Over thirty teams from six countries competed to identify and design a feasible solution to achieve tracking and traceability of blood products from a donor to the recipient.
“SCAN Health’s business case competition enabled Canadian Blood Services to explore the conditions and circumstances under which it can optimally integrate its supply chain processes with the in-hospital managed care processes for patients undergoing transfusion events,” says Dr. Graham Sher, CEO of CBS.
Winning students, Michelle Davis, Carson Hollingsworth, Morgan Sowers and Abbigail Wegman, along with Dr. Randy Bradley, Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee, were hosted in Ottawa for two days of meetings.
CBS executive described the students’ presentation as an intellectually rich, impressive and practical piece of work. The students attributed their participation and success in the competition to the strength of their business school program, and a real desire to present practical solutions that add value and impact for all stakeholders in the health system.
“We were very excited to participate in the competition and be exposed to a complex, real-world issue affecting the lives of patients and donors,” says Michelle Davis, competition participant and winner. “It was a challenging and fulfilling opportunity to find a solution that is both impactful and can be realistically implemented across a health system. We were grateful to have this incredible opportunity to discuss our solution with CBS decision-makers.”
Competition winners were awarded a cash prize, international profile, opportunity to meet with CBS leadership and an invitation to attend the SCAN Health Global Networking Event 2019.
